In Prep For The Weekend

Update On Life

no not the cereal. i do not like cereal, or rather i do not like milk. all that aside.

work has been interesting, if not boring. i sit at work most of the night and wait for work to trickle in. there are 3 of us over night and another guy that is training on days to come over night. we are suppose to be taking calls for Europe. however they are not calling because they do not trust us stupid americans to know how to fix a computer.

it has now been 2 months that the kids have come to live with me. we all seem to be adjusting well thus far. also i have had all kinds of issues with there mother. she is not giving me a hard time with the kids, but i have had to go and bail her out with some issues that she has had as well as some medical issues that she was going through. i am not going to go into much details about that.

i have been doing sound for the church that i attend for the last 10 years. i asked to step down to help me with my worship in service. as it is church for me is all work and it has for many of years. and i had a guy that i was training, however he was not really picking it up so he decided that it was not for him. i am still doing it and getting frustrated.

i have also had issues with getting the kids to school in the morning. at it so happens they start school at 7:45 and 8 am but i do not get off of work until 8 am and then i have about a 15 drive home. not very conducive to getting them to school. as it worked out the kids cousin goes to the same high school as my daughter and she is 17 but her truck broke down and is not impounded. so once again i was with out a ride for the kids. the kids talked to one of my roommates and convinced him to wake up earlier and take them to school.

for fun i have for the last 2 months listened to 16 books on audio, via my ipod. the first was a series that i had already read and the other was the Wheel Of Time. a really good set of books, and i am eager for the last book to come out this fall.

this is an overview of the last few months and short at that. all in all i have not been all that happy with the way that my life is going. but that is life as we know it. and though the grass may be greener it is not always better for grazing.

Daughter

the other day i was checking the analyzer of this blog. the system that allows me to view the activity on the site. my daughter, at 15, walks up behind me and ask me what i was doing. so i explained it to her. she thought that it was cool to look at all the stuff that i could check. then she went on the site and started poking around on the site and reading a bunch of the entries. it was fun to talk to her about it. she must really be bored while she is grounded, if she thought that it was interesting to view the site and how it worked. and no i am not talking about why she is grounded.

this is Within Temptation, a great band. but i really like the grunther in the song (the guy that is Singing? with her). the song is called The Other Half (Of Me)

Fun At Work

with working over night we goof off a lot. and with very little work to do we tend to watch movies and read books and the like. on one occasion one of my co-workers over night watch Disneys Tinkerbell Movie. and he has never lived it down. all the office knows about it. so some of the ladies from the day shift decorated his desk with fairy wings and magic wands and the like. tonight while i was at the store with my daughter getting her some hair dye and folders for school i found a tinkerbell folder. so i picked it up and he walked in to the office with it on his desk. as always we got a good laugh out of it.

Secured Office

i work in a secured office. so secured that there are gates that we have to use a badge and pass code for. then secured entry into the building. then secured entry into the office space that we have for our department. it sounds ridiculous and to a point it is. there are only four of us over night and the restrooms are out of our office space and down the hall. so if any of us leave our badge in the office one of the other of us has to let that person in. it is decided that if this ever occurs we are going to mess with the person that is locked out. well tonight was the first time that this happened. one of the guys went to the restroom and then returned not able to get in. as i got up to let him in i looked at his desk next to mine and did not see his badge, guessing that he was messing with us and that he really had it i went back to my desk and sat down. i look of indignation plain on his face was really funny. so he starts knocking on the glass again. so i got up and paused at a few other desk to look at items on the desk. this caused a great deal of laughter from all of my co-workers and myself. then the string of threats started from the co-worker locked out. threats about if i ever get locked out and the like. slowly i came to the door and let him in.

we all had a great laugh about this. and as he walked passed me i noticed that this badge was on the strap around his neck that was turned around on his back. when i pointed this out to him, laughter erupted anew. this time much louder. then the treats started about not saying anything to anyone on days. this is a done deal. everyone will know on the other shifts, this is just to good to be kept to out shift.

Superbowl

first i have to say congrats to the Arizona Cardinals there first ever Superbowl. i am not a football fan at all. after growing up on Phoenix, i always claimed that the city i grew up in did not have a football team, at least not one worth speaking of. but my hat is tipped to them anyway. but feb first also happens to be my roommates birthday, and he is a big football fan. the original plan was that on his 21st birthday we were going to go downtown to a jazz club that he has wanted to go to but was not able to because he was under age. now that he has realized that the Superbowl is on the same day, he is canceling the jazz club. this after i took the night off of work to so that i could go to the club. oh well, i guess i will still take the night off and go and watch football, hurumph.

Long Week

it is wednesday and i want this week over. work has been slow, and they have not finished setting up the new office. there is no microwave or fridge, these are minor annoyances really. the thing that bothers me the most is not have water to drink. i have been warned that the tap water is not good. there is no ice and not filtered water. i know, i sound demanding. but i am trying really hard not to drink soda, and for the last two days that is what i have been drinking. but i am just ready to call it a week.

Television

i am not a television watcher. and much to the annoyance of most of my co-workers, they are contently pesting me about different shows that they watch and want me to watch. one of my co-workers even pointed out that i must not watch TV because i call it television still. all that aside, i have also not had cable in a few years either. until i moved in with my new roommates i have not had cable or internet. and though i may spend a lot of time on the computer, and the television seems to always be on. each of us has a TV in our rooms as well, and still i do not watch anything, not even movies. i spend most of my time on the computer or listening to audio books. however i have, as of friday, now turned on the television twice since i moved in with roommates almost 2 months ago. the first was on new years eve when my brother came into town and he had a concert video he wanted us to watch, it was great. the concert was of Within Temptation. the other and most recent was this last friday when the premiere of Battlestar Galactica came on. so twice within as many months. at this rate i may only turn it on about once a month. and watch television or TV, what have you, about as often. for any of you that watch Television, by all means enjoy, i do not judge you. but there are better things to do then sitting there watching a box ;)

Late Friday Post

it was a distracting day at work today. with the new office and getting familiar with the place that i forgot to post. then i have slept most of the day. or not been able to get on the computer because of roommates and kids. so with no further ado and no more gilding the lily here is today's friday video.

New Office

this morning we moved into our new office. we found out about 4 months ago that we were moving. then found out last friday that it was going to be this week. we were told this week that it would be friday morning that we would move. then about 6 am this morning we found out that we needed to move this morning. this would not have been so bad if it was not one of the coldest days this winter. he had a high of 4 degrees with a wind chill. not a very bad wind chill but at that temp any wind hurts. the fact that it is cold does not really bother me. anything under about 20 degrees the body seems not to notice the difference from one degree to the next, it is just cold. but the wind can make all the difference. on top of all that the kids had there cousin stay the night so they could all go to school together. however the cold weather was to much. the truck would not start, and neither would my roommates car. the batteries could not crank the engine, so they did not go to school because i did not get home until about 10:30. i helped my roommate jump his car, then i went to bed. as of right now it is -7 degrees outside. to night i get to start late because of working late this morning moving my desk. it will be interesting being at the new office tonight. the only thing i am not looking forward to is that i now have to share a desk with one of the day shift guys. that would not be so bad but the guy i have to share desks with is one of the most sickly people in our office. he is just one of though guys that is always got a sore throat, or a sniffle, or something. i have now picked up lysol wipes and hand sanitizer. we will see how it goes.

Snow

well it is snowing again. i am kind of glad. it allows me to breath easier with moisture in the air. but the driving is really bad. it is cold enough that the snow is dry, so with the wind blowing it is drifting very badly and making driving difficult when you cannot see. as i was driving to get my son from school i saw a car in the next lane and about 10 feet ahead of me spin and back into the curb, facing the wrong direction. that was the only close accident that i saw though. because of the snow the bible study that i attend on monday nights was canceled.

Bible Bowl

i do not know if i ever informed you all, but this last sunday we had a bible bowl at church. i was on one of the teams. it was a good time, we were covering 4 books, Judges, Ruth, Danial, and Acts. the team i was on lost when all was said and done. we had 3 rounds and the points doubled and tripled. at the end of the first round our team and another were tied at a deficit of 400 points from the leaders. by the end of the second round we were leading the second place team by about 1500 points. but the third round we had some trouble getting answers and with the points being tripled we were quickly passed. all in all it was good and lots of fun.

Voice Mails

the over nights are getting really boring. we have taken to pulling pranks on one another. one of the guys is a smoker so when he went out we called his phone and left him a voice mail that was a sound clip from The Princess Bride. it was great the clip is here until we start getting more work i guess the pranks will continue.

Something Different
